- ZU 23/2 can be ready to fire from a walking position in 30 seconds, and in emergency situations it can be fired from a cruising position.
- The weapon is aimed and fired manually with the aid of an optical-mechanical sight, which uses manually entered target data to provide limited automatic aiming. There is also a straight-tube T-3 telescope for use against ground targets such as unarmored or lightly armored vehicles, as well as infantry.
- Normally, each barrel becomes too hot after firing 100 rounds and is therefore replaced with a spare barrel. Each weapon is normally supplied with two spare barrels as part of its standard equipment.
